Country number 64. After 11 years of driving the same Land Rover Defender, Drive Against Malaria arrived in country number sixty four. David Robertson has driven 173,000 kilometers since the launch of Drive Against Malaria in September 1998.
The Drive Against Malaria travels into the most remote communities of Africa to diagnose malaria using a simple blood test, with 3 day treatment for those who are malaria positive. At the projects in Cameroon & CAR we hand out long lasting mosquito nets to families with young children, orphanages and health centers as a protection against malaria. Pregnant women, babies and young children are at the highest risk of complications from malaria, which often leads to permanent brain damage or even death. Malaria is preventable and curable, yet at endemic levels in some of Africa's poorest countries.
