Land Rover Netherlands

Beesd, 8 oktober 2012 – Drive Against Malaria kan rekenen op de steun van Land Rover! Met de overhandiging van een cheque voor €50.000 heeft Land Rover Nederland de steun aan Drive Against Malaria wederom met een jaar verlengd. Daarnaast werden de sleutels overgedragen van een geheel gereviseerde en gespoten Discovery, zodat ons team van DAM voortaan over twee Land Rovers kan beschikken voor het werk in Afrika.

François Bozizé, The President of Central African Republic was recently diagnosed with malaria. President Bozizé was suffering from typical malaria symptoms during a meeting with Julia Samuel. Julia had just treated hundreds of Biaka (pygmy) children in the South West of CAR when she met with the President at a post by the Sangha River. Julia treated to President with coartem. President Bozizé recovered over the course of three days and is reported to be good health.

World Malaria Day 2012

25th April 2012 ExxonMobil Benelux raised $25,000.00 during the 10 miles of Antwerp last Sunday 22 April.
130 EM employees ran for malaria fighting projects of DAM in Cameroon & CAR. The cheque was handed to Operations Director, Julia Samuel by Refinery Manager, Ian Carr after the run.

Bayanga, CAR with the BaAka



From December 26th – January 2nd DAM tested up to 356 children & adults per day in the Massapouel health post, western CAR. The findings were 81% malaria positives of children under the age of 7 years and 21% of children over 7 years and adults. All positives were given WHO recommended 3 day course of Coartem.

Children support Drive Against Malaria

Amsterdam - 230 children of the Dutch Christian Elementary School, Immanuel, Rijsenhout were full of fascination during the film about the humanitarian work of Drive Against Malaria Foundation in Africa. The children sat on the edge of their seats to listen during the presentation of David Robertson and Julia Samuel.
In the coming months the children will raise funds for the poorest families in the Central African Republic (CAR) to buy long lasting nets and provide medication for malaria sicken children.

Inner Wheel Harderwijk


Inner Wheel Club Harderwijk donate €3,200.00 to DAM's anti-malaria project to the Baka Pygmie of Cameroon. Since 2007 Drive Against Malaria continues to fight malaria by providing mosquito nets with medication to some of the most remote tribes of eastern Cameroon.

World Malaria Day 2011


$25,000.00 Was donated to Drive Against Malaria during the run-up to World Malaria Day 2011. The cheque was presented by ExxonMobil Public & Government Affairs Manager Benelux Remko Kruithof. Thanks to the 110 runners from Belgium & Holland in the "Antwerp 10 miles", DAM's campaigns will be extended with more children being tested, treated and protected against malaria in Cameroon and Central African Republic during the next mission July 2011 - February 2012.

RRI Support malaria fight SW Cameroon


Limbe based "Rig Repair International" financed malaria screening along the coastline of SW Cameroon in Njonji Village, Debundscha, Isobi and Idenau. Testing was followed up with the 3 day course, combination therapy "Coartem" to cure malaria. Long lasting mosquito nets were given along with education on the best ways to prevent malaria by sleeping under an impregnated net. The people were tested over a two day period by the DAM team working with JCI in each location. This insured everyone had the opportunity of the free test & treatment along with up to 2 mosquito nets per household. These nets can prevent malaria for up to 4 years.

Sanga River Central African Republic


Drive Against Malaria are working with the Ba’aka communities (Pygmy’s) close to the town of Bayanga on the Sanga River Central African Republic to combat malaria.
Severn sites have been set up around Baynga to diagnose and treat malaria as well as train local doctors, medics and teams of volunteers to use RDT’s and ACT’s. 710 women & children under 10 have so far been tested for malaria.

Mount Cameroon Project


Mount Cameroon Project underway. We are testing children under the age of ten for the malaria parasite in villages at the base of Mt. Cameroon. Those who are malaria positive are given a 3 day course of ACT's to treat and cure malaria. Each patient is also given a long lasting mosquito net with information about malaria.

General Assembly New York



David Robertson at the 65th General Assembly New York, where Nick Clegg pledged that Britain will lead the fight against malaria today as he announced a £500 million fund to tackle one of the world's biggest killers of children. Speaking at a UN summit in New York, the Deputy Prime Minister said he was increasing UK aid from its current £150 million in a bid to halve deaths in 10 African countries.

Mount Cameroon Project sponsored by Land Rover.


Land Rover Netherlands together with all 20 Dutch dealers donated funds for DAM’s Mt Cameroon Project. Long Lasting Mosquito nets with training will be given to each village around the base of one of Africa's largest volcanic mountain. At the peek due to low temperatures with snowfall there are no mosquito, yet some of the wettest areas of the world lay at the base where malaria-transmitting mosquito’s thrive. In the jungles around the base, malaria rates are incredibly high and the health facilities are either run down or don't exist. Roads are incredibly poor and many communities can only be reached by a Land Rover or foot. The cheque for 50,000.00 euro was handed over by Marc Bienemann, directeur Land Rover Nederland, en Johan de Koning namens de Land Rover dealerorganisatie.

Zeist – GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) donated €5,000.00 to DAM during the Dutch Challenge Malaria Symposium in the run-up to World Malaria Day. €5,000.00 was also donated to “The 100th Village" . Medical director Dr. Rudolf van Olden handed of the DAM cheque to Julia Samuel and David Robertson at the end of the symposium.

Nets to Cameroon and C A R

Malende - 6,000 inhabitants protected

Malende - 6,000 inhabitants were protected with long lasting mosquito nets donated by the Drive Against Malaria. The village found along the N8 between Limbe and Kumba has a high malaria morbidity/mortality rate due to its location and seasonal rainfall . We were welcomed by three traditional dancing groups and worked together with Rotary Club Limbe.
